According to Facebook, it is going to take aggressive steps to remove posts linked to 5G and coronavirus causing “physical harm”. On the other hand, it is not going to remove declarations having a link between COVID-19 and 5G.
Moreover, a report published by Independent states that post having wrong claims about location, severity or treatments and cures about the coronavirus outbreak comes in the list of those Facebook posts that are causing physical harm. Besides, Facebook is going to remove those posts which motivate people to target 5G masts that can cause arson or harm.
According to a Facebook spokesperson,
“We are taking aggressive steps to stop misinformation and harmful content from spreading on oebur platforms and connect people to accurate information about Coronavirus.”th
It was reported that last week in the UK many reports of 5G masts being set on fire. And the UK faces significant loss due to these burnings of 5G masts in Belfast, Merseyside, and Birmingham.
Reports state that due to the conspiracy theories, employees and operators confront physical and verbal threats. The conspiracy theories are the cause of all this mess as according to these theories coronavirus is spreading due to the launch of 5G. Those theories claim that coronavirus utilizes the 5G radio waves to attack the victim and subdued its immune system.
The key source for these rumors to spread is Facebook and other social media platforms. According to one of these rumors, 5G sucks oxygen out from people. Currently, social media particularly Facebook is playing a big part in the spread of these types of misinformation especially the 5G conspiracy theories.
Facebook said that it is not going to remove those posts which do not cause physical harm. Though they have a link with 5G and coronavirus outbreak.
Moreover, in case a fact-checker declares any post as fake. Facebook will try to disprove it or restrict the distribution, decrease the visibility or put warning labels to those posts.
Video-sharing platform pronounced that it will not only minimize the content having 5G related things. But also will remove videos having a link to 5G and coronavirus outbreak. The videos will be considered as controversial content as well as subject to suppression which will not follow the policies of YouTube. Additionally, according to a report by Guardian, those videos will not only removed from search results on the platform. But also not able to get its advertising income
Twitter has taken measures to hold back misinformation linked to the pandemic also. And removed the posts which are against its misinformation policy linked to coronavirus outbreak.
