Sony’s G Master full-frame lens series has a new addition, FE 35mm F1.4 GM lens. This lens has the potential to capture smooth bokeh. The lens is now available in the United States.
Sony offers a full line of G Master Lenses for professionals. Recently, it has launched the latest Sony FE 35mm F1.4 GM lens. Supporting the E-mount camera systems, this is the 39th full-frame optic of the company. Before this, camera users depended on the FE Zeiss 35mm F1.4 lens. This new lens of Sony, though it supports the same focal length, is much improved. As compared to the Zeiss lens, the new lens is pretty small in size and less weight. Well, Zeiss will also be available in the market.
Weight of new FE 35mm F1.4 GM lens of the company is about 524g. The lens is composed of fourteen elements in ten groups. It is made of two Extreme Aspherical elements to maintain resolution for the complete image. These are a Nano AR Coating II and a single ED glass element.
When it comes to the signature characteristic of the company’s G Master lens lineup, the FE 35mm F1.4 GM lens has the ability to produce elegant bokeh. A nice bokeh photo can distinguish or separate foreground from background nicely, a type of the lens. According to the Sony, “It delivers an almost circular aperture thanks to its 11-blade construction a rare level of quality for a compact lens. Spherical aberration control at both the design and the manufacturing stages contributes to beautiful bokeh.”
Sony says that when paired with an E-mount camera body, the FE 35mm F1.4 GM lens can offer high-quality autofocus. “Its AF capabilities can be perfect for a wide range of uses such as shooting landscapes, portraits and street photography, for both stills and video.” Actually, two XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors of Sony are the basis of such precise AF and tracking. Some specific algorithms are developed for the XD Linear Motors to reduce vibration and noise for more fast and smooth AF performance.
It also features an aperture ring, a focus mode switch and a customizable focus hold button for much easy operation. Through the menu, the focus button can be assigned to many other functions.
The lens is released with weatherproof design. The users can have their hands on the lens in February with a price tag for $1400 in the US. However, its price and availability in India are still unknown.
