The increasing resolutions in gaming laptops seem to be over these days, frame-rate is the new boss, and HP is well aware of it. HP has unveiled new HP Omen 15 laptop at CES 2019 which is the first ever gaming laptop to feature a 240Hz screen. Many of the gamers won’t notice the difference between 240Hz and 144Hz content but it is definitely useful to existing eSports pros.
It’s hard to complain about the possibility of smoother gameplay even if you are not an eSports player. This device should be able to rise easily beyond 60FPS in most well-optimized titles. The games could hit that 240FPS limit or close to it if the settings are cranked down a bit.
The display in HP Omen 15 uses TN technology and not an IPS, meaning that the gameplay quality won’t be as good as some gamers would hope. Moreover, the 15’s resolution caps out at 1920x1080p. The device’s display may disappoint those who prefer a crisper look of a 1440p monitor, but a plus for frame-rate enthusiasts. The display will roughly have the same pixel density as a bigger display would have with 1440p.
