An 82-year-old female pilot is going to accompany Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and his brother to space. The 82-year old female pilot, Mary Wallace Funk is going to be the oldest person who is joining the team of Jeff Bezos to space.
Mary Wallace Funk was expected to go to space 60 years ago and she further had passed all the essential tests needed. However, gender was the only cause that obstructed her journey to space. Despite that, the difficult situation has ended with a good result, she is not going to join the team of Jeff and his brother.
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is going to fly to space by his rocket company Blue Origin on the first space flight on July 20. Jeff Bezos has posted a post on Instagram in which he was welcoming Mary Wallace Funk to come with him to space on his fight, New Shepherd.
“No one has waited longer. In 1961, Wally Funk was at the top of her class as part of the “Mercury 13” Woman in Space Program. Despite completing their training, the program was cancelled, and none of the thirteen flew. It’s time. Welcome to the crew, Wally. We’re excited to have you fly with us on July 20th as our honoured guest.”
Bezos’s rocket company, Blue Origin had formerly auctioned a seat for $28 million. The unknown candidate who paid an excessive amount of $28 million is going to fly to space on New Shepard’s first human flight on July 20. And will accompany Blue Origin CEO, Jeff Bezos, and his brother, Mark. Above 7,600 people had been listed to bid from 159 different countries.
The organization had further disclosed the bidding amount will be contributed to Blue Origin’s foundation, Club for the Future, whose mission is to encourage future generations to chase careers in STEM and to assist originate the future of life in space.
Bezos further had shared a video on his Instagram previously in which he announced that his brother will also visit space.
“Ever since I was five years old, I’ve dreamed of travelling to space. On July 20th, I will take that journey with my brother. The greatest adventure, with my best friend.”
Earlier, Bezos will resign as the co-founder and CEO of Amazon on July 5. At present, he will take up as the executive chairman of the organization in the third quarter of 2021. Bezos will be replaced by Andy Jassy, the chief of Amazon’s cloud division Amazon Web Services (AWS).
