Meta’s own social media platform Instagram introduces a recent feature that allows its users to delete Instagram accounts using the mobile app. Instagram users were not capable of doing this previously.
However, the tech giant intended to act according to the recent ,Apple App Store policies so the photo-sharing social media platform has rolled out the option to delete Instagram accounts directly from the app.
As per Apple’s recent App Store Review Guidelines, presently it is compulsory for all applications that provide account formation in the to contain furtherer to further contain the option of removing the account from the application.
Previously if users want to delete Instagram accounts, they were pushed by the social media application to follow a long process to remove the account.
According to a statement from Meta’s spokesperson,
“We want to give people more ways to control their experience and time spent on Instagram. We’ve rolled out the option to delete your account in Settings on iOS, and you’ll still have the option to temporarily disable your account before choosing to delete it.”
Users need to get access their Instagram using a web browser on a mobile desktop to delete their Instagram account. It was really odd that Instagram did not provide the option to delete the account within the app previously. According to Instagram, it is currently making its users able to delete their account option in its iOS app.
Moreover, Apple’s recent App Store policies have authorized all applications to allow its users to start deleting their accounts within the app. Accoridng to a statement by Apple on its support page, it removes the account from the developer’s records when an account is removed from the app. It further removed any data related to the account that the developer isn’t lawfully needed to keep.
So, when the application will offer this option to users, it will provide them with more control of the private data they have shared.
The California-based Cupertino giant stated,
“If you’re updating an app or submitting a new app with account creation, please read the guidance below to prevent delays in review.”
Apple further has asked applications that the account removal process should be simpler to locate in the application. According to Apple, the deletion option must be present in the account settings of the application.
