After Apple took off chargers from iPhone box, the Korean-based tech giant Samsung has also made some moves with Galaxy S21 series launched recently. The top-rated tech giant has confirmed that its next series will come without chargers and earphones.
Rumours suggested that Samsung like Apple would be taking off the chargers from its phones before the Galaxy S21 and iPhone 12 released. A teasing post on Facebook suggested that Samsung wouldn’t follow suit after the earlier announcement.
In October, rumours speculated that Samsung would take off the earphones and charger from S21 box. While the company had removed the anti-Apple Facebook post in December.
Last week, the Galaxy S21 line was unveiled sans earphones and charger. The company implied that the same fate would fall on its future devices during the presentation. A Q&A post by Patrick Chomet confirmed it EVP and Head of the Customer Experience Office at Samsung through Phone Arena.
Chomet said, “We believe that the gradual removal of charger plugs and earphones from our in-box device packaging can help address sustainable consumption issues and remove any pressure that consumers may feel towards continually receiving unnecessary charger accessories with new phones”.
The logics for taking off the charger is the same as Apple has. They said it’s better for the environment and most people already have compatible chargers from other devices. It has been carrying out USB-C type charging ports since 2017, so older chargers can still be coherent with the latest Galaxy series and tablets, the company adds.
Fortunately, the company is taking off the earphones and charger step by step. Its means the company will ship some devices with charger and earphones. However, the Galaxy Note 21 seems the next flagship which will come without these accessories.
