hatsApp has found a bug which allows anyone to bypass Touch ID and Face ID additional protection on its iOS application. The company said that it’ll roll out the fix for WhatsApp Face ID bug soon.
Whatsapp’s spokesman said in a statement that
We are aware of the issue and a fix will be available shortly. In the meantime, we recommend that people set the screen lock option to immediately.
A Redditor pointed out that the latest WhatsApp Face ID bug allows anyone to bypass additional security protection when using any other application via sharing extension.
Moreover, he wrote that
While transitioning to the next screen, you observe that no FaceID or TouchID verification takes place if an option other than “Immediately” was set previously. Now just exit out to the iOS Home Screen. (If in some cases, it asks for FaceID or TouchID verification, just cancel it and try clicking on WhatsApp icon in the iOS Share Sheet again).
Furthermore, he pointed out that WhatAapp Face ID and Touch ID feature works perfectly when using set authentication kick-in time to just “immediately“. WhatsApp also provides three more authentication options, after in minute, after 15 minutes and after 1 hour.
Modify WhatsApp’s Authentication kick-in time
- Step 1:
Open your WhatsApp in your iOS device and go to its settings.
- Step 2:
Tap on Account, then tap on privacy.
- Step 3:
Toggle the button to enable screen lock.
- Step 4:
On your screen select “Immediately” option.
By following these few steps you can avoid WhatsApp Face ID bug.
