The console competitions are high, though no one can tell which next-gen console will reach the top. However, analysts are excited to make predictions regarding the lead. Xbox Series X is predicted to have double the sales of PlayStation 5 by Christmas.
One of the first to predict is the SEO of the firm The Hoth. Analysts at the firm pondered data from Google Trends of the year and have concluded Xbox Series X the best-selling the PlayStation 5 by Christmas.
“It’s been seven years since the last console war and statistics indicate that Sony was by far the big winner, selling twice as many PS4s as Microsoft did Xbox One, If this [current] trend data is anything to go by, it looks like the pattern will be reversed, at least for the first Christmas.” The Hoth CMO Clayton Johnson said.
Search engine graphs depict an increasing interest in the Xbox Series X in December last year, making it focused in the Public area. This spike was instantly following Microsoft’s declaration of the XBSX in a Youtube video that saw 14.6 million views.
Microsoft maintained this lead until the summer months, and then interests were found to be shifted to Sony’s PlayStation 5 in June. Thus Analysts predicted the sales of PlayStation 5 to be double than that of the Xbox Series X, by Christmas. Correlating the spike to the time when Sony took a deep dive into the PlayStation 5’s console, the user’s interest in the previous gen’s king of the consoles persisted through July.
Both Sony and Microsoft in September announced their released dates and pricing for the new coming consoles. At the start of September, Xbox went first and came up with more searches than the PlayStation. Once Sony disclosed the PlayStation and release date prices, consumers were found to take more interest in searching for “where to buy” the PS5 ten times more than the XBSX by the end of September.
These spikes are directly correlated to announcements coming from both consoles and let us know about customer commitment. According to The Hoth, almost everything important is known. Search trends reveal more interest in the Xbox Series X. Thus, predicted that by Christmas, Microsoft’s system would outsell Sony’s by a margin of 2:1 ration.
Well, one must take these predictions with a grain of salt. Not everything has been disclosed yet. The report doesn’t consider that today, Sony showed the PS5’s new UX in its State of Play address, which is sure to get attention. Microsoft might have some cards to play coming with next month’s launch.
Moreover, though it may be a good rule of thumb, search trends do not necessarily depict sales. For instance, if 1000 people go for a search, it doesn’t mean 1000 sales.
It is still anybody’s game at this point, and soon both companies are going to put out all the stops as each tends to one-up the last move of its competitors, a game of tit-for-tat. It seems the war will never end as many consumers like a pendulum, moving in one direction or the other, so have your opportunity.
