The rumors are true, Xiaomi is working on a foldable phone, the Chinese firm’s president and co-founder Lin Bin posted a video on Weibo that shows the phone in action. The design looks like the best implementation of the design we have ever seen till date.
At the start of this month, Evan Blass revealed a short clip showing Xiaomi’s foldable phone which looks almost similar to the one from Lin Bin’s video. In the latest footage, the prototype initially resembles a small, slightly curved tablet.
Bin then moves it to the landscape before folding it in both sides for making it look like a phone. The power button is in a position where it can easily be accessed either in tablet or phone mode.
To develop a foldable device, Bin said that Xiaomi had to overcome
a series of technical problems such as flexible folding screen technology, four-wheel drive folding shaft technology, flexible cover technology, and MIUI adaptation.
Although the name of this phone is open for suggestions from the public, the company is considering naming this phone as Mi Dual Flex or Mi MIX Flex.
Lin Bin said that Xiaomi would consider making a mass production machine for it in future if people like it. But with LG, Samsung, Oppo, and Huawei all are confirmed or rumored to be working on the similar devices then it would be surprising if Xiaomi doesn’t join the party especially as its bendy phone looks pretty good.
