Red Dead Redemption 2 can now be experienced in virtual reality, so long as you can install a fan-made mod. The unofficial Red Dead Redemption 2 in VR mod thanks to Luke Ross as he recently posted the mod on his Patreon page. Ross has credits of R.E.A.L. VR mod for Grand Theft Auto V, but the RDR2 transformation was really difficult.
According to Ross as he explained on Patreon, this game is very advanced as compared to GTA V technically. Moreover, the graphics APIs its supports (DX12 and Vulkan) are “similarly more complex than DX11, on which GTA V was based.” So, overall he had to produce a whole new framework for VR injection.
Its been six months since he has been struggling with the project and gameplay footage from UploadVR, he has surpassed himself.
Ross told about his interests to consistently improve the RDR2 mod shortly. If the community supports, he hopes to begin modding other AAA titles in the future. He has thought of Cyberpunk 2077, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs: Legions, and Horizon Zero Dawn.
Interested parties will have to subscribe to Ross’ Patreon to have access to the RDR2 mod. You can subscribe at $10 monthly. If you’d like to check out some of his earlier work first, VR mods for No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in H.A.R.M.’s Way and GTA V are available free of charge.
